The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by dark humor, this show's earnestness struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about following this lovable family go about their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to evolve comedy past its current cynical streak. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
The Path Forward
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to experience the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
