Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his future after another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase like this with performances this poor.”
Jones stated, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
