President Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Attacked Military Personnel to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to attend the executive mansion.
He noted that he conversed with her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Incident
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a attack on last Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their memory.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief stated he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both soldiers of the state National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president told journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Support
Mourners came together over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid public safety in DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers wished for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that inspired those around her,” Hankins, the leader of her former high school, informed the media. “She was caring, compassionate and always ready to help others.”
Service details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Steps and Policy Revisions
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The event prompted the government to pause asylum applications and halt issuing visas to owners of travel documents.
Condition of the Airman
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi stated on a news show that she planned to visit his relatives.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had bravery,” the governor informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
