Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD issued security footage Monday of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday near the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a baby.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as a new signing in spring and was projected as a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while working his way back.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. His commitment is total. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He signed with Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with New York in March.
