A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
